Within Word Pattern Stage
Description
At this stage students have learned the letter sound correspondence and are learning about blends and diagraphs. Students should know between 200-400 sight words by this time. Ages of the students of this stage typically range between 6-9 years old.
Instructional Strategy
- Word study
- At this stage is a great time to focus on word families, words that have the same ending. Also, focus on words that have the same starting sounds i.e. blends.
- Studying diagraphs and learning the different sounds that are associated with them.
The next spelling stage is the Syllables and Affixes Stage
