Syllables and Affixes Stage 

Description

At this stage students are learning how to put endings and extra syllables in their words. Students learn to use prefixes and suffixes as well. Students at this stage are typically between 8-12 years old.

Teaching Strategy

  • Morphemic Analysis
    • Teach students how to break down words into base words, prefixes, and suffixes.
    • Once the students have the base word, find out if they know what the word means
      • add the prefixes or suffixes back into place and see if that helps students understand what the word means.
