About Our Chickens and Eggs

Picture
Our Chickens are kept in a coop with access to an outdoor exercise yard. Our eggs have a naturally harder shell than store bought eggs.  They also have a darker yoke (almost orange) due to the nutrients and minerals in the feed we use.

We have several different variety of egg layers.  Each variety of layer, lays a different shade or color egg, providing us with a rainbow of eggs.  Our eggs can be white, peach, shades of brown, speckled, blue or green.  All our eggs are edible.  The color of the shell does not affect or change what is inside.

Egg Label Meanings

Free Range - Free range egg layers are allowed to roam freely in a barn, and have nesting boxes for laying eggs.  They also have access to the outside.  There are no regulations for the amount of time they can be outside.
Cage Free - Cage free layers are similar to free range, but they do not have access to the outside.  Instead they are able to roam freely throughout a barn.
Organic - The farm is certified organic.  The feed is free of additives and animal by products.  The birds roam freely in a barn, and have access to outside.
Pasture Raised - Usually birds are kept outdoors for most of the year in a large pasture, and may be put indoors at night for protection.
All-natural - There are no regulations.
Fertile -  The eggs are laid by hens who have been living with roosters.
