Beginning Stage

Description

At this stage learners understand that there is a connection between letters and sounds. They have begun to do real reading, and match letters to their sounds. This stage is typically between 4-7 years old.

Teaching Strategy

  • Read Aloud
    • A great way in which to introduce new sounds and combinations through reading to the class. Using books that focus on a certain set of material that can be followed up with worksheets, word finds, etc. to reinforce the chosen sounds/words.
