Vocabulary Assessments

As with any assessment, they should be done throughout the year. There are both formal and informal assessments. Teachers can decide what is best for them, but informal assessments should be used many times to ensure proper learning and growth is happening.
  • While reading a story, stop on a word and ask a student to define the word.
  • For older students, formal assessments may be used. Have students select the correct word to complete the sentence.
